What's New with VISEDAL
VISEDAL in the News
Sponsors' Corner Page Allows for Better Communication between Sponsors and Scholars
We've launched the Sponsors' Corner page to provide more opportunities for our sponsors to connect with their scholars and stay abreast of VISEDAL's latest happenings. For example, this page has more information about how sponsors can now send their scholars a letter and/or a picture at any time through our Sponsor-Scholar Connection Program.
Introducing Our New VP -- Daniel Schutrum-Boward!
We are thrilled to announce that Daniel Schutrum-Boward will be our next Vice President, replacing Brad Johnson. Daniel has volunteered with VISEDAL for several years. In addition to coming on many volunteer trips, he interned both in Nicaragua and in the United States and has been serving as our Special Initiatives Coordinator. He has been instrumental in helping VISEDAL in these roles, and we are excited to have him step into a larger role!
Check out our Meet Us page to learn more about Daniel!
Check Out Our 2014 Annual Report!
We are excited and proud to share with you our 2014 Annual Report—VISEDAL’s second annual report. This document highlights our accomplishments in 2014 and previews our goals for 2015, as well as presents a general overview of our organization's programs.
2014 was an amazing year for both our scholars and VISEDAL as an organization, and we are confident that 2015 will bring about even more growth and success. Click the cover image to the left to read the report!
Introducing VISEDAL Day!
On October 3, we will host VISEDAL Day—an opportunity to raise awareness and support for VISEDAL by giving back to your local community. We would LOVE for you to join us! You can do anything—volunteer with a local charity, pick up trash at a nearby park, or come up with your own creative idea! Service is at the heart of VISEDAL, and we are excited to incorporate volunteer activities into this fundraiser. All proceeds will help us outfit our new facility.
Staffing Changes: Farewell to Brad, and a Promotion for Esmir
After a year of working for VISEDAL in Nicaragua, Vice President Brad Johnson has left VISEDAL and returned home to the States. We are incredibly grateful for the amazing work Brad has done. During the past year, he has led numerous projects, including launching Casa VISEDAL, establishing VISEDAL as an official NGO in Nicaragua, helping our scholars get ID cards, developing our first annual report, and initiating our College Scholars Program. In addition, he has done a wonderful job of mentoring our scholars. He has been a constant, encouraging presence in their lives who shows them that they are special and loved. We will truly miss him.
To replace Brad, we're delighted to announce the promotion of Esmir Calero to the position of Country Director. Esmir has served as our part-time Program Coordinator since 2008, overseeing our Scholar Sponsorship Program and developing deep, nurturing relationships with our scholars. He will now be directing our operations in Nicaragua on a full-time basis. We are extremely appreciative of Esmir's passion for helping our scholars succeed, and we know he will do a fantastic job as our Country Director.
Virtual 5k Sees Participants from Around the World, Nets $2,000!
Thank you so much for participating in the VISEDAL Virtual 5k! We had 83 registered participants and raised more than $2,000. That is just about enough to provide scholarships, clothing, food, and mentoring for three scholars for a full year!
Our Virtual 5k provided an opportunity for anyone--runners and non-runners--to support VISEDAL by doing 5 of any activity, anywhere in the world, on the same day. We are thrilled that people from all over the globe participated!
Our Summer 2013 Volunteer Trip was amazing. Check out the highlights!
